Adoption Stories
We love hearing how the dogs and the cats at the SPCA are doing once they have been adopted, and once in awhile the new moms and dads send us an email with pictures and a little story about the dog or cat they adopted.
Bruiser and his great new life!
Over two years ago, a friendly and adorable mutt came to the SPCA in Cattaraugus County. The workers named him "Bruiser." Bruiser immediately bonded with the workers and volunteers. He loved to cuddle, go for walks, and just hang out. Everyone thought he would find a home quickly, but all the potential adopters passed him by. In the winter Bruiser loved to play in the snow. He enjoyed making snow angels and would chase snowballs the volunteers threw to him. I remember thinking at the time, "There's got to be people out there that would love to take this dog home." Yet still, no one came.

Jasper (who was adopted Friday, April 6, 2012) has been to the SNAP recommended vet in East Aurora and got neutered, heart worm checked negative and his rabies shot this past Tuesday. He is doing well. He slept with us every night at the foot of the bed. Now he will sleep down stairs with Mary on the main floor of the house till his e-collar comes off and he can manage steps again. He seems happy just to be with one of us. He loves to go outside and for rides. We love him. More later.
Thanks again Kelly and staff.

Hello!
We adopted Frylock last February and I just wanted to send you an update to let you know that he is doing great!
I've attached a few pictures.
At first he was nervous and tentative, but he quickly adjusted and now he thinks he owns the place! His favorite activity is running down the hill and chasing his ball.
Frylock has a very affectionate nature and everyone who meets him loves him!
Thank you for the opportunity to adopt a great dog!!! :)

Loverboy came to the SPCA last winter. His previous owner was unable to keep him and wanted to surrender him to the SPCA. When the shelter told his owner that they were already at maximum capacity but could put Loverboy on petfinder for him, he let Loverboy loose in the SPCA parking lot and drove away. Loverboy came right over to Leland, who was on a walk with a volunteer, and the two dogs sniffed each other and wagged their tails. You could almost feel the energy between Leland and Loverboy; an understanding that life wasn't always merciful, but that things were going to be okay. Loverboy took a play stance and so did Leland. But before they could play, a volunteer came out and leashed Loverboy up because he was loose close to the highway. Please click here to read more about Loverboy!
OUT OF A CAR, INTO BRIAN AND PAT'S ARMS - LOVERBOY
Audrey came to the SPCA as a fairly young puppy roughly two years ago. She experienced some kennel stress and was loaded with pent-up energy, so she often came across to potential adopters as very hyper and wild. But outside of her kennel, Audrey was fun-loving, energetic yet focused, and very gentle to everyone. Paula, one of the volunteers, decided to work with Audrey on clicker-training and teach her some basic commands. Audrey loved learning these commands, and worked very hard to control her impulses and do what handlers wanted her to do. Still, her rambunctious nature on first-appearance turned off many adopters. We knew that Audrey would thrive with a family who understood dog nature and didn't judge a book by the cover. Please click here to read more about Audrey!
ALL ABOUT AUDREY!
CASPER IN HIS NEW HOME!
Hi Kelly! (and wonderful staff at the SPCA)
Casper is doing wonderful and it's only day 3! We feel like we've had him for years. We can't thank you enough for helping us find our best friend. When we had left him in the house for the first time, he had a little separation anxiety. When i came home he jumped up and whines a little saying he missed me. He still does it, but with less whining and more tail wagging! He also sleeps in our bed every night, and takes up most of it! When i say he snuggles, I mean he snuggles. He'll literally sleep in between Rob and i with his head on my pillow, snoring away haha. I took him on a nice long walk today, and discovered he loves snow! mostly snowballs. I throw one in the air and he'll jump and catch it. Or he'll run along the side of the sidewalk eating it. Casper has not stopped making us laugh since he's been home. He needs to greet every person he sees and he loves to play, play, play! We got him treats, a dog bed, and tons of toys. He loves being outside, although he did manage to snap his collar while playing. No worries we retrieved him and he's doing wonderful! I will send pictures in a following email.
Thank you all so much!
Amber, Rob and Casper
